Embracing Uncertainty

In a dynamic collaboration between Bath Spa University and University of Bath MBA students, Natalie Bedford co-led a creative project to rethink the traditional book launch format. The brief challenged participants to design an immersive and meaningful experience that would engage attendees with the core ideas of Margaret Heffernan’s Embracing Uncertainty—a book exploring how artists, musicians, and writers thrive amid unpredictability.

Informed by a multidisciplinary team including Mike Coyne (brand strategist), Penny Hay (Professor of Imagination), and Clare Hughes (curatorial and experience design consultant), the group developed a launch concept that celebrated creativity.

The event design emphasised human connection, sensory engagement, and participatory exploration. Through interactive installations, storytelling, and collaborative activities, the launch became a living embodiment of the book’s themes.

This project exemplified how cross-disciplinary collaboration can transform conventional formats into experiential learning environments, where ideas are not just presented but felt, questioned, and co-created.
