Live Online Portrait Sketching
Portraiture has long served as a site of inquiry into identity, perception, and the nature of representation. While the genre may appear rooted in likeness, its most compelling practitioners have used it to explore deeper questions about presence, time, and the instability of seeing.
I’m fascinated by the architecture of the face: the way a nose divides space, how the eyes reveal and conceal, how angles shift with mood and light. A slight turn of the head can change everything. I draw to discover—what lies beneath the surface, what stories are held in the shadows of a cheekbone or the curve of a brow.
These portraits are not about likeness alone. They are about presence, gesture, and the quiet drama of being seen. Sometimes the eyes look out boldly; sometimes they hide. I follow the lines, the tension, the softness. I let the drawing lead me.
Each portrait I draw is a fleeting encounter—often just the length of a song. These free online Monday sessions invite spontaneity, rhythm, and raw expression into my week. The music sets the tempo, and the face becomes a landscape of shifting emotion and structure.
